Welcome to kangabimbi.com! Here you will find everything about carrying your child in our original baby-sling, the Kanga.
Carrying your baby in a sling is one of the oldest ways to carry a child. In many cultures and different parts of the world this is still very common. In the Western world, the baby-sling has been replaced by strollers and special fabricated back and front-packs in all sorts of shapes, sizes and materials.
Nowadays the original sling is a much more common sight in Europe. More and more parents discover that this is such a natural way of carrying a baby. It is both very comfortable and practical, and has many advantages over modern baby carriers.
Our sling, the Kanga, is a baby carrier that consists of a long piece of fabric wrapped around both the parent and the baby and then tied. Our sling is named after the African kanga (also spelt “khanga”) which has been used for centuries, and is still being used in many parts of Africa (see chapter “Origin”). Our kanga is made of a long piece of baby-friendly tricot fabric of 100% cotton. The fabric is slightly stretchy to ensure a perfect fit.
Have a look around our site and you will discover the many advantages of carrying your baby in our Kanga. We provide you with information on the origins of the Kanga and explain the advantages for both you and your baby. On our “frequently asked questions” page you will find many helpful answers.
Our Kanga's come in two sizes which will fit anybody. Colours will change from time to time because we try our best to adapt as much as possible to new fashion colours. Colour examples can be seen in our shop.
About me
My name is Esther Zoutendijk and was born and raised in Holland. I've studied fashion – specialized in designing theaterclothing in Amsterdam. In 2005 my husband and I moved to Italy and a year later, our daughter, Giulia Jasmina was born. From the first day on we carried Giulia in a sling I had made myself. I've had so many people asking me about the sling and where they could get one but I could never direct anybody to a store since I have never seen one in Italy. That's when I got the idea to make more slings and sell them myself.
I'm sure that like this I will help lots of parents who want to carry their child in a sling but can't find a place to buy one or simply did'nt know of the existence of this method. Now, after I have just started my little company I have allready received a lot of very happy responses of parents who finally were able to carry their child in a sling.
I hope these slings meet your needs and would like to point out the fact that I'm always open to ideas and suggestions for improvement or fashion. I appreciate it if you let me know what you like or dislike about my products.
